Work Area Protection Corporation (WAPCO) was founded in 1969 as a basement operation in Elmhurst, IL manufacturing signs and sign stands primarily for the utility market. As WAPCO expanded into new markets, the company was awarded its first state contract for sign stands, making it necessary to vacate the basement operation for a larger facility in Addison, IL.
In 1978, WAPCO expanded operations and relocated to St. Charles, IL, home to the company’s current plastic molding facility. WAPCO had grown to be one of the largest and most respected manufacturers in the field of temporary traffic control devices worldwide.
In December, 1986, WAPCO became a subsidiary of Stabler Companies, Inc. (SCI). This acquisition provided SCI with a well-known and respected nationwide distribution network.
On January 11, 2008, Stabler Companies Inc., Work Area Protection Corp., and all of its divisions, were acquired by New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc.
WAPCO’s well-deserved reputation was established by following one simple formula: provide the highest quality products at a competitive price and back each sale with world class service; a formula we still use today.
WAPCO’s successful growth pattern continues today with the constant addition of innovative safety solutions, including the only MASH approved, Speed Dependent Crash Attenuator, Smart Work Zone Systems, Patented Chips-Software and Data Packages.
